Welcome to an alkali metal with power,
omnipresent, with the beauty of a flower.
Typically found in inorganic limestone,
it is essential for skeleton and bone.
It is the fifth most abundant element,
in earth crust and human body equally present.
Calcium is a fundament of humankind,
a building material, with water combined.
Eighteen hundred eight it was purified,
and from Humphrey Davy as metal verified.
Personally I love the natural gypsum,
as in arid and under the hot sun.
So called stone roses can blossom,
simple gypsum but awesome.
Yet there is so much more,
all the beauty of Calcium to explore.
Let’s start with human body physiology,
you may know the impact on anatomy.
Calcium is essential for our skeleton,
a living masterpiece ductile but hard as stone.
Without Calcium there wouldn’t be muscle contraction,
so literally there wouldn’t be any action.
As catalyst in so many proteins,
it is life by all and any means.
Stabilizes electrochemical potential,
and is for neurotransmitting essential.
So make sure to have enough Calcium to stay functional,
you get very tired if it is missing punctual.
Astonishing how important it is inside of us,
but in the world outside, still high potential to discuss.
As pure metal it is used as allyoing element in steel,
there its purification properties get real.
To be honest it is just using its high affinity,
to sulfur, oxygen, nitrogen, typical alkali metal chemistry,
In the steel matrix it binds unwanted impurities,
and if spherical, even enhancing properties.
It is used as an oxygen and nitrogen getter,
making desired Helium and Argon gas quality better.
It is used as a reducing agent for several oxygen affine candidates,
as sacrifice to keep them in metallic state.
So Calcium is for us, and life essential,
in metal industry, high use, high potential.
As metal high reactivity,
but with that no high longevity.
Next to that it is building material of our very planet,
with stoneroses quite an esthete,
Calcium, every heartbeat, every minute, every hour,
it shares with you, its might and power!
