A gas, without colour and smell,
the crucial element, I can tell.
Seventyfive percent, of the universe,
as plasma, gas, in water and organic matter to observe.
Most important it is the fuel of existence,
burning hydrogen balls in the far distance.
Suns like our beauty on the sky,
and stars, which probably did already die.
So in principle whatever came to life and existence,
has a hydrogen dependance.
Suns fuse it to produce heat,
our sun’s energy came there quite neat.
Organic matter is mostly carbon and hydrogen,
seldom with sulfur, nitrogen and oxygen.
Without hydrogen nothing organic would exist,
and that is in my opinion quite a list.
It is the smallest element of them all,
a proton and an electron to be whole.
In free nature as dihydrogen gas paired,
but for hydrogen action is prefered.
It loves to be combined with oxygen,
forming water, the fuel of life, again,
it is what we are, what we drink,
of what we exist, but not what we think.
There is no doubt that hydrogen is significant,
tiny, small but brilliant.
So it is no big deal to understand,
humankind wants it in his hand.
Robert Boyle, an Irishman discovered a reaction,
a hydrochloride-steel interaction,
where hydrogen was formed and burned,
this is how he the discovery earned.
The British Henry Cavendish, found inflamable air,
Boyle was over a hundred years before there,
Cavendish thought it was Phlogiston,
but what he found was already shown,
Lavoisier and Laplace, two french scientists,
brought light into the unclear mists,
they oxidized iron with water, producing rust,
finding a first observed hydrogen blast.
Which is nothing more than the re-reaction,
the hydrogen oxygen water gas interaction.
This is why hydrogen has its name,
„the water former“ in old greeks sayn‘.
Several options to gain hydrogen,
in industrial scale realistic, only a few of them.
Steam reforming of methan,
has carbonmonoxide on the plan.
Methane pyrolysis, is energy consuming,
at least the carbon is solid resuming,
Pyrolysis of water, another energy desaster,
is in terms of carbon, the master.
Water is absolutely available, so only energy is required,
which is typically what is from hydrogen desired.
In terms of thermal loss and enthropy,
you always need more energy.
Green hydrogen is thinkable but a difficile matter,
but to think about it, will help make it better.
Green in my opinion means, regenerative,
no climate heating, a real future perspective,
Wind and solar energy are valuable sources,
water energy has even better forces.
All of them are dependent from weather and time,
is the sun about to shine?
Is wind coming to our turbines today,
not with precision to say.
The backdraw to oil, gas or even nuclear power,
we are dependent from weather in the green hour.
As energy storage hydrogen might come into play,
it is stable in its own way.
But it cannot be transported like gas or oil, like we know,
so tiny and small, everywhere a leakage to show.
Metal-hydrides might be a storage solution,
yet the breakthrough is missing, a possible future revolution.
No matter how hydrogen is produced,
it is widely in the industry used.
With Haber-Bosch ammonia is generated,
so it is with another basic chemical related.
In a wide area of chemical applications,
besides that it goes to field soil nutritions.
In metal industry it is a reducing agent,
a deoxidation reagent.
Which is important for pure metal production,
and post treatment reduction.
To summerize the elment hydrogen,
I am personally a huge fan.
It is the energy source of our life,
potentially the source of the universes drive.
It is substantial for organic matter,
of course with carbon together.
It is the fuel of our life,
with water we survive.
It is nutriating our plants and crops,
from industry or from bacterial jobs.
And it is crucial for metal industry,
has huge pontential and its own chemistry.
Last but not least, it is powerfuel,
to get it green, an ongoing duel,
catalysts, storage and explosive trends,
a thoughtful future use is in our hands.
