Osmium is super rare,
fifty parts per trillion spare.
It is the most dense metal,
brittle, so pure not useful at all.

Part of the platinum group,
and the refractory metal troop.
Wollaston and Tennant discovered,
in black residue covered,

Named after Osme, „a smell“,
with a garlic like odor easy to tell,
for the volatile yellow oxide,
as it was freed.

First manufactured for light,
light bulbs nice and bright,
in one year replaced,
rarety reality faced,

it is used for fingerprints,
for security and crime hints,
as a steel alloying agent,
and a catalytic reagent.

Its high electrone density,
fixates carbon literally,
for asymetric synthesis,
and detailed structure analysis.

We could use more of it,
but even the tiny bit,
a blessing for civilization,
for some special occasion.

Osmium is like a rare talent,
which has be carefully spent.
Be aware of your unique skill,
and you being you, with a free will.
