Tungstenturtle Poetry

Named after the mighty titans of greece,
a powerful, unique metal.
strong for war and peace,
its extraction is not trivial.

It comes literally from sand,
Rutile and Ilmenit named,
widely spread over the land,
the Kroll process needed to be gained.

Titanium is very light, with low density,
paramagnetic and low conductivity,
with extremely good biocompatibiltiy,
and corrosion resistancy.

Combined with a high melting point,
it is perfect for weight reduction,
not too difficult to joint,
interesting in vehicle production.

It has a high affinity to everything small,
Nitrogen, Carbon, Sulfur and Oxygen,
it loves Chloride over all,
if you want, its weakpoint and problem.

Mostly used is Titanium as oxidic pigment,
sunscreen, tootpaste, paper opacity,
in plastics and even in cement,
sea water stable paint, ninety-five percent capacity.

Airplanes up to ninety-three percent Titanium,
luxury cars, anti allergic jewelry,
it is lighter, and by far stronger than Alumnium,
it is expensive and promises exclusivity.

In medical applications it is outstanding,
implants and prosthesis with high acceptance,
in surgery an easy handling,
artificial hips, nails for fractures, a second chance.

Titanium is exclusive and unique,
high strength, low weight,
in medicine and your boutique,
for vehicles simply great.

Strong but reactive,
a true titan among others,
in sunscreen and colour protective,
extravagant next to its metal brothers.

I wish to dedicate this poem to a dear friend of mine, who did her doctoral thesis in Titanium alloys. She is heartwarming, clever, strong and she knitted a turtle for me. Which reserves her a place in my heart forever. Thank you for the great time together E.
