The idea of vacation,
is in itself a sensation.
One or two weeks free,
probably a beach at the sea.

A town yet unknown,
in a travelers blog shown.
Probably a more sporty way,
not my favorite I have to say.

Cities to explore or some nature,
still with some amenities for sure.
To tent or camping caravan,
or sleeping in straw in a barn.

We did so this year as well,
to a spanish city our decision fell.
Due to many reason,
we chose to go off season.

Not too hot any more,
and not too crowded at the shore.
Less people overall what we tought,
and we were confused what reality brought.

True story, we have been there as well,
in this overtourism hot spot hell.
I am fully aware as I tell,
this turtle has guilt on its shell.

One table after another,
no one seemed to bother,
that neither guests nor staff,
had a kind word, made us baff.

As I chose to live in Vienna,
I am well aware of the manner,
that you have to fight the waiter,
a friendly one would be a traitor.

But as in Vienna it is part of the game,
in our spanish city it was just lame.
Resignation from both sides,
and no smile that this disgust hides.

Hektoliters of Sangria and Beer,
the German masses must not fear.
„Bitte Wurst“ and „Gemüsedöner“ waits for them,
and of such adaption I am no fan.

I am aware that Paella and a glas of whine,
is not what you typically dine,
but it is at least a regional meal,
where you can culture taste an feel.

A little off the hot spots we found some vacation,
and in the end I am thankful for the realization,
that tourism is a fine thing,
as it might peace and wealth bring,

as long as it does not destroy,
it is meant to enjoy,
ideally for the guest and the host,
and for a tidy coast.

It broke my heart seeing the piles of trash at the beach,
what dimensions did we already reach?
I felt like no one could really enjoy being there,
and even about that they did not even care.

I cannot change humanity in its foundation,
but polution and overtourism is as well a human creation.
It is important to step out and have free time,
that after holiday we can again shine.

But I think we should never stop to care,
the idea to be kind and to share,
share the beach and the mountains beauty,
when we are off work duty.

And not destroy and make natures wonder disappear,
humankind is not able to comprehend I fear,
We lost respect and control,
ignorance and egosim, overall.
