Sodium is everywhere,
just not that much in air.
Alkalimetal, solid grey,
it’s hard to keep it that way.

Even though it has applications,
most important are its salt variations.
Edible salt, the taste of the sea,
preserves food, sets its flavours free.

Liquid pure Sodium is used as coolant,
mostly applied in a radioactive plant.
It has very high heat transfer,
the chance of neutron catching is rare.

It is very nice, until there is a leak,
its stability against water is weak.
The reaction a furious detonation,
a drastic way of sodium oxide creation.

In air it is gently burning away,
a beautiful orange, I must say.
Sodium colours the flame as we know it,
you see it, whenever a candle is lit.

Orange street lamps in foggy nights,
is when Sodium steam lights.
In special metal industry,
they use Sodiums high oxygen affinity.

It will reduce the other metal for sure,
only Potassium is even more impure.
Sodium is crucial in our body,
mandatory in every blood pressure study.

It micro-manages cell activity,
with small changes in electricity.
Controls pH and blood pressure,
and regulates the blood volume measure.

Be careful with salt in the food,
even if it tastes awfully good.
It will cause you many permanent things,
longterm, a permanent medication it brings.

Sodium, very reactive, everywhere,
on earth it has quite a share.
It makes the taste of sea and food,
it preserves and enhances taste for good.

The pure metal burns in air,
in us of blood and pressure it takes care.
The flames of the world are painted by Sodium,
there it takes a romantic podium.

Take a part of Sodium with you,
enjoy the taste of life true,
Be active, but control your pressure,
keep burning, but not beyond measure.
