Sulfur, non metallic, quite populaire,
yellow with a diabolic flair.
If molten it is orange and sticky,
the handling unusual tricky.
It burns with a bright blue flame,
which should deserve some fame.
The usual association,
characteristic smells with less appriciation.
In fact elemental Sulfur does not smell,
but if in a compound you can tell,
rotten egg, skunk, and excrements,
as well in garlic and grapefruit scents.
A broad spectrum of olfactory,
sulfur knows a unique chemistry.
It reacts with himself preferred in rings,
octaedric ones is what satisfaction brings.
Six and seven are as well naturally found ,
twelve and eighteen a synthetic compound.
If molten sulfur is cooled rapidly,
it shows a special amorphicity.
A lot of allotropes and conformations,
sulfur chemistry is full of flexible variations.
As some sort of oxygen similarity,
sulfur has quite some metal affinity.
There is a broad variation of sulfides,
more picky and selective than oxides.
Copper, Bismuth, Antimony,
Zinc, Iron, Barium and Mercury.
Those seven deserve the sulfurs heart,
and its‘ not easy to set them apart.
Very interesting as well,
Sulfur loves precious metals like hell.
Silver, Platinum, Iridium,
Gold, Rhodium, Palladium.
It is not a permanent relation,
more a cuddling situation.
Sulfur is toxic to every catalyst,
because its‘ on his love interest list.
The duo infernale is formed with oxygen,
a lot of variations, again.
Dioxide, Trioxide in gas phase,
as sulphate and sulphite in aqueous space.
In inorganic chemistry quite present,
it performs in organic chemistry quite excellent.
Feathers, nails and hair,
in kreatinin, Sulfur is there.
Straight or curly modification,
is just a Sulfur bridge alteration.
Sulfur is essential in some amino acids,
mostly for linking and bridging needs.
It reacts with everything it finds,
it brings together, and binds.
Sulfur is like a teenager,
no one is a stranger,
it reacts with everyone,
until it is gone.
In groups they stick together,
sour in rainy weather,
Urgent need for cuddling,
but no serious thing.
The smell sometimes a challenge,
and picky in some sense.
Everything possible, so many paths to go,
a full potential to show.
